Departure by bike among the places mentioned by Dante: from “Piazza dei Cavalieri” where stands out “Torre della Muda”, up to the mountain “per cui i Pisani veder Lucca non ponno”, in the direction of Vicopisano, where it hits the “Rocca di Caprona”, on a rocky spur overlooking the village of the same name, mentioned in the XXI canto of Inferno (verses 94-96):
“così vid’io già temer li fanti ch’uscivan patteggiati di Caprona vegendo sé tra nemici cotanti”
With these words Dante Alighieri recalls the victorious siege of the Florentines in the battle of 1289 against the stronghold of Vicopisano, today a characteristic village with medieval walls and thirteen tower houses on which the Rocca del Brunelleschi stands out. The verses are an explicit reference to the fear of the Pisan troops stormed by a large number of Florentine soldiers.
We will pedal in the village of Vicopisano, among its narrow streets, walls, palaces and medieval towers, we will discover many curiosities that make it an authentic and pleasant town to visit, away from tourist crowds, a nutshell a typical place where time seems to have stopped.
