DESCRIPTION OF THE ITINERARY:
The tour starts from the middle age aqueduct passing next to the wall of Pisa.The aqueduct was commissioned by the Granduc of Tuscany Ferdinando de’ Medici (XVI-XVII).The cycling path continues for 6 km along these 934 arches, the medicean aqueduct was built to bring water from sources of Monti Pisani to the fountains of Pisa.From this road we will reach the Monastery of “Certosa di Calci” where the Middle Ages meet Renaissance and XVII th century.The landscape is that of the “Gracious Valley” where olives tree and vineyards are the main cultivation.It’s worth to have a stop to Calci and its romanic church dedicated to the saints John and Ermolao, dated from 1116, with a wonderful bell-tower that was also an old defense tower.Next to this village in the countryside we can suggest a local wine cellar where you can stop to taste some good wine and “bruschetta” with olive oil.
